I am about to be addmited into a non accredited Echocardiography program in Oakland, California, although I already had a Bachelor’s degree in a different field, but the cordinator of the program told me that I will be able to take my board Exam immediatly after the program. I want to know whether the issue of accreditation of the school will hurt me in the nearest future. Pls. Can somebody advice me whether to go for this unaccredited school. To get into the very few accredited schools is very difficult.

the market is going to see dramatic changes in the field of imaging due the health care reform the cuts is going to affect the highly paid sonogarphers.
salaries or wages going to freeze + with large number of school flooding the market it is becoming highly competitive to find lucritive positions. I will think longer before making commitments.

Official US Dept. of Labor Job Name: Sonographer (Cardiac)

“echo tech” is an old name for this profession or someone who has not completed the registry. Please pass this on. In some medical circles “tech” is derogatory meaning less education and not correct for this demanding highly skilled profession.

I already have my BA…I want to become an Echo tech but have no idea where to start? Do u go thru an ultrasound program first or xray? Everytime I try n figure out how to do this I dont get anywhere. Someone please help. Do I go and get a certificate for this? I’m also looking for a shorter period of schooling , I would like to do this as quick as possible. Any info is greatly appreaciated! Im in Florida , close to Tampa.

I am going to be applying for a sonography/imaging program this Feb. I have to decide between Echocardi. or Obstetric. Can anyone who is already in this field give me a bit of advice how to decide? I am leaning towards Echo because of the higher need for this in the future.
(I am in Chicago area, Harper College has a great 2 yr program)
